Common Questions

Granola 101

  • Is granola good for high-protein diets?

Most granola isn't. The average grocery store granola has 3–4g of protein per serving and 12g+ of added sugar. Burlyman is different. Our protein granola uses grass-fed whey protein concentrate to deliver 16g of protein per 2oz serving. This changes the macronutrient composition of a granola serving in support of a higher protein diet. Pair it with a cup of Greek yogurt and you're at 35g of protein in a single bowl, sub-400 calories (with fat free yogurt). That's more protein than most protein bars, with ingredients you can actually pronounce.

TL;DR: normal granola is basically dessert lying to you — 4g protein, 12g+ sugar. ours packs 16g protein per serving (grass-fed whey, real ingredients). add greek yogurt and you're at 35g protein, sub-400 cals. it's giving breakfast that actually does something.

  • What is grass-fed whey protein?

Grass-fed whey comes from cows raised on pasture rather than feedlots. The result is a whey protein with a better fatty acid profile, including 2–5× more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and up to 62% more omega-3 fatty acids compared to conventional whey (Daley et al., Nutrition Journal, 2010; Benbrook et al., Food Science & Nutrition, 2018). We use grass-fed whey protein concentrate, not isolate, to preserve more of the naturally occurring nutrients.

TL;DR: whey from cows that actually touched grass. better fats, more omega-3s and CLA, and we use concentrate not isolate so the good stuff survives. happy cows, better macros. no notes.

  • Does Burlyman Granola contain seed oils?

No. Burlyman Granola uses zero seed oils, no canola, sunflower, safflower, or soybean oil. We bake with real butter instead. We're not out here trying to start a war with seed oils, but we are opposed to the use of ultra-processed ingredients for the sake of improving margins. We use butter because it tastes better and we'd rather pay more for ingredients that actually belong in your body. And yes, we believe it's ok to eat butter in moderation.

TL;DR: zero. no canola, no sunflower, none of it. we bake with real butter because it tastes better and it's not ultra-processed gunk added to pad margins. butter in moderation is fine, we promise you'll live.

  • How does the Protein Power Bowl work?

What do you mean how does it work, who wrote these questions? It's simple, Burlyman Granola plus Yogurt. It's your crunchy aunt's favorite pre-hike morning ritual with balanced macro nutrients, less sugar, and slightly more fucks given. Aside from delivering macros that actually map to our goals, we love it because it takes approximately 30 seconds to make, and 100% of the mess drops into the dishwasher. Don't sacrifice your gains to the turbulence of the morning routine (breakfasts, packing bags, preparing lunches, getting kids out the door). Spice it up with all the usual suspects: berries, chia seeds, raisins, sardines if you're worried about getting enough creatine…

TL;DR: it's granola in yogurt, my guy. you've got this.
